Jalesha Bass, Jack Yates High School, Class of 2017
My concern about Jack Yates High School is the way the schedules are set up. This year, they are really difficult to work with. The maritime program, the magnet program, and the Advanced Placement classes are all in the same periods. The students that are part of the magnet program can’t take the AP classes because they’re the same time as the magnet class and a lot of the magnet classes are double blocked and the AP classes are back to back.
For example, I have a magnet class double blocked for 2nd and 3rd period, but the AP classes are 2nd and 3rd as well. AP English classes are 2nd and 3rd period. AP US History is only offered 3rd period, and the science APs are offered 3rd period also.
I was wondering if it would be possible to spread the classes out more so I can have an opportunity to take everything I am supposed to take. This is affecting a lot of students at the school.
P.S. Why can’t UIL teams like debate get letterman jackets?
